About

My current body of work is a self-developed technique that merges liquid acrylic painting on translucent silk with layered silkscreened printed textures. The upper layer—silk, prized for its natural iridescence and transparency—is painted using a resist technique. I mix and apply liquid acrylics in hundreds of custom shades, carefully adjusting hue, intensity, and balance to create a dynamic interplay of color and light.

Beneath this lies the textured layer, created through silkscreening with thickened dyes and organic materials—such as mushroom cross-sections—pressed into the screens. As the dyes break down during the print process, they yield unexpected and intricate patterns. Each print is unique, echoing nature’s unpredictability and complexity. By incorporating organic elements directly into the print process, I aim to honor the natural world while creating work that offers both visual depth and emotional resonance.

In 1981 I was introduced to the world of color and design through fiber art, which quickly became a passion for me.  I eventually moved into painting for the unlimited expression it provides, but stayed close to my fiber roots by choosing silk as my canvas. It is an unforgiving canvas in many regards. Mistakes cannot be erased or painted over, but for me the rich iridescence of the finished painting is worth the challenge.

As a self -taught colorist, I have never been bound by the rules and ideas of color theory. While working, I intuitively mix and use colors that please my soul. Additionally, images I draw are not constrained by realism…… instead my minds eye creates an illustrative abstraction of the remembered scene that serves as my inspiration.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  After graduating from Penn State University and starting a family, I settled in the State College area, and began working with a local craft co-op. My passion quickly emerged as I began designing quilts and table linens to market  throughout the United States. In 1987 I moved on to form my own business and have been a full time artist ever since. I feel very fortunate to have won numerous awards while participating in some of the finest art festivals in the country. I am especially grateful to all those who collect my work and enjoy it on a daily basis. You allow me to continue my deep passion with color and design.
